Norma Jean Smith Virgin, 84

Norma Jean Smith Virgin, 84 of Frankfort, Ohio formerly of West Portsmouth, died Saturday July 24, 2021 at her home. She was born December 6, 1936 in Portsmouth to the late Irvin and Grace Gregory Smith. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Everett L. Virgin Sr. whom she married August 8, 1959 at Dry Run Church of Christ in West Portsmouth, a brother Don Smith, a sister, Gaythel Smith (Rose) Collins, and a sister in law, Gayle Detillion.

Norma was a graduate of Portsmouth West High School Class of 1954, she was a member of the Portsmouth Eastern Star #424, and previously worked at Portsmouth Telephone Company as a switch board operator, and then worked at Dr. Riehl's office before choosing to be a stay at home mother. Norma enjoyed spending time with her family. She was known to be a "card shark" and was always up for beating someone in a game of Rummy. She also enjoyed writing and had beautiful calligraphy handwriting.

She is survived by her daughter Monica Virgin, son and daughter in law, Everett "J.R." (Linda) Virgin, all of Frankfort, grandchildren; Alyssa (Thomas) Ward, Kailey Virgin, and Brandi Virgin. She was very proud of her grandchildren and had nicknames for each of them. Alyssa was her Sugar, Kailey was her Sugar Pie, and Brandi was her Sugar Plum. She loved spending time with them and being their Mammaw. Also surviving are her sister in laws; Pat Smith, Nellie Virgin Book, and Janet Virgin Parker, along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday July 31, 2021 at Moon Cemetery in Otway with Mike Davis officiating. Family and friends who would like to follow the procession to the cemetery should gather at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth at noon on Saturday.
