Norman W. Swords, 88
Norman W. (Dose) Swords, 88 of West Portsmouth went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 6, 2006 after battling a long illness. He was born January 18, 1918 in West Portsmouth to the late Shirley and Charlotte Swords. He was a World War II Army Veteran who served five years overseas. He was employed by the N & W Raidroad as a Carman for 30 years. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Norman is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Maxine; two sons, Danny (Cathy), Jerry (Jean) and daughter-in-law Kathryn Swords. Also surviving is one sister Edna Mershon; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Spradlin and Orla Malina and one son, Norman W. Swords, Jr.
Funeral Services will be 1 P.M. Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Glen Lawhun officiating and interment in Mershon Cemetery. Graveside Military Rites will be given by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 5 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
