Paul E. Long, 92
Paul E. Long, 92 of Coles Park West Portsmouth, died Sunday April 4, 2010 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 9, 1918 in Portsmouth to the late Edward M. and Ida Hinze Long. He was retired from the Portsmouth Public Library where he was the first driver of the Bookmobile. Paul drove the Bookmobile for 50 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved to feed the birds and squirrels and enjoyed helping people. He especially was loved by his nephew Don who he helped very much. Along with his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Davis.
Paul is survived by his wife Margaret Flemmings Long who he married in 1938 in Greenup, Ky., a son Paul E. (Jeanette) Long Jr. of McDermott, a daughter Phyllis Long Mains of Coles Park, 3 grandchildren; Edward (Lisa) Long of Wheelersburg, Paula (Stephen) Strunk of Richmond, Ky., and Randy (Lori) Mains of Kitts Hill, 5 great grandchildren; August Cole Long, Colin J. Long, Calista F. Long, Sean Strunk and Matthew Strunk.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Calvin Ray Evans officiating. The family request that donations be made to SOMC Hospice and the Portsmouth Public Library in Paul's name. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth.
