Richard Byron Powell, 78
Richard Byron Powell,78, of Sugar Grove, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born December 28, 1928 in Plain City, Ohio, the son of the late Glenn Powell and Gladys Cary Delashmutt.
An Army Veteran, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cary Powell and a son, Joseph "Joey" Powell. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. A Long time resident of Sugar Grove, Richard owned and operated a sawmill for a number of years. A 1947 graduate of Hilliard High School in Franklin County, Ohio, he recently reacquainted with a number of alumni.
Richard is survived by his wife, Laura Powell, whom he married October 19, 1958. He is also survived by a brother, Rodney Powell of Harrisburg, Oregon; sons Mike Powell of Portsmouth, Bill Powell of Nashville, TN and Don Powell of Cincinnati as well as a daughter, Sue Chamblin, the wife of Scot Chamblin of Stout, Ohio. Grandchildren that survive him are James "Jimmy" Powell, Joseph "Joey" Powell, Hannah Powell, Tracey Chamblin, Trevor Chamblin and Kyle Chamblin.
A funeral service will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Bob Cosgray officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Deerfield Township Cemetery near Clarksburg, Ohio.
