Richard "Rick" Sowards,

Richard "Rick" Tony Sowards, of Columbus, formerly of West Portsmouth, died Saturday July 27, 2013 at his home. He was born May 25, 1954 in Portsmouth to the late Sadie M. Givens Sowards and Joseph R Sowards of West Portsmouth. He worked for Wilcar. Along with is mother he was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Raymond Sowards a sister, Phyllis Sowards and a brother-in-law Gary Ridout.

Rick is survived by his father Joseph Sowards of West Portsmouth, a daughter Laci (Joshua) Simpson of West Portsmouth, a grandson Easton Simpson and another grandchild on the way, 2 sisters; Donna Ridout and Tina (Jeff) Smith all of West Portsmouth. Rick was loved by many nieces and nephews and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday August 1, 2013 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday.
