Rita Mae Kennard, 89

Rita Mae Kennard, 89 of Palm City, Florida formerly of West Portsmouth, died Friday December 4, 2021 at The Memory Care Facility in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born November 16, 1932 in Portsmouth to the late Ray and Lucy Spears Shivener.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. Kennard whom she married on April 12, 1952 in West Portsmouth, and 2 sisters; Shirley Campel and Mary Kinney.

Rita was retired from Goodyear Atomic Corporation where she was the director of H.R. and Employee Benefits. She was a member of Nauvoo United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Portsmouth Chapter and the Do Si Do Square Dance Club.

Rita is survived by a son, Dr. M. Richard (Pamela) Kennard, a daughter Chris Salyers, 4 grandchildren; Ben (Christa) Kennard, Beth (Nathan) Key, Emily (Russ) Mahoney and Aaron Salyers, 8 great grandchildren; Paige, Owen and Jonathan Kennard, Ethan, Noah and Jacob Key and Connor and Declan Mahoney, along with 2 sisters; Janet O'Dell and Lois Hopkins.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday December 12, 2021 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday starting at 1:00 PM. The family requests that any donations be made to Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth.
