Robert Wesley Barnett, Sr., 77
Robert Wesley Barnett, Sr., 77 of Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth died Wednesday June 10, 2009 at Wesley Village. He was born July 8, 1931 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Thomas Wesley and Edna Wynona (Nonie) Barnett. He was a retired supervisor of Aristech in Haverhill. Mr. Barnett was a lifelong member of Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth, a member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge #769, Mt. Vernon Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, Solomon Council York Rite, Calvary Commandery Knights Templar, Scottish Rite (Valley of Cincinnati), El Hasa Shrine of Ashland, KY., and Portsmouth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem. He was also a Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Along with his parents Robert was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Joan Moore Barnett whom he married April 28, 1951 at Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth and a sister Wanda Joan Barnett.
Robert is survived by two sons: Dr. Robert (Stephanie) Barnett, Jr., of Ironton, Ohio; John Collins (Cathy) Barnett of Pasadena, Texas; two daughters: Judith Ann Ellsesser (Rob) Painter of Bidwell, Ohio and Linda Sue (Ron) McCain of Portsmouth, Ohio. Surviving also are eleven grandchildren: Alexandra Nicole Ellsesser, Caitlin Christine Ellsesser, and Joan Elizabeth Ellsesser, formerly of South Webster; Kathryn Marie Barnett, Robert Wesley Barnett, III, Sarah Elyse Barnett, and Trenton Chandler Barnett, all of Ironton, Ohio. Natalie Ann McCain and Mollie Mae McCain of Portsmouth; and J.C. Barnett, Jr., and Taylor Jane Barnett, both of Pasadena, Texas.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday June 13, 2009 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Reverend John Gowdy officiating .Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 PM on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. These will be Masonic services Friday evening starting at 8:00 PM conducted by Nauvoo Masonic Lodge #769. The family's favorite charity is the Alzheimer's Association.
