Robert E Collins, Sr. 75, of Portsmouth, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Hill View Retirement Center. Robert was born January 16, 1934 in Riceville, KY to the late Curtis and Ethel Williams Collins and grandson of Polk and Suzie Baldridge Collins and Roy and Sarah Bayse Williams. He was a 1951 Graduate of Portsmouth High School and had attended Shawnee State University and Portsmouth Interstate Business College, an Army (6th Armored Division), Korean War veteran, a member of the D.A.V., American Legion Post 276 of South Shore, a 32 degree Mason of the Covington Lodge. He began his career in 1958 with the postal service and advanced through the ranks from distribution clerk to supervisor then to postmaster. He served in post offices in Portsmouth, New Boston, and Cincinnati and in 1979 was appointed Postmaster at Otway, where he served proudly until Retirement in 1989.

Robert is survived by his wife whom he married on Christmas Eve 1953, Jo Ann Abrams Collins the daughter of Charles T. and Alma Birch Abrams, three daughters; Brenda Jo Adams of Portsmouth, Lori Jean Jones of Westerville and Melissa Jane(Scott) Schmidt of Stout, one son; Robert Collins (Betty), Jr. of Gahanna, one brother; Donald Collins of Stout, 7 grandsons; Jeremy, Joshua, Jamey Conley, Jason Hart, Adam and Aaron Jones and Andrew Kohr, 2 granddaughters; Stacy Hart and Erica Kohr, along with 7 great grandchildren. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith and he held the banner high.

Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with graveside military rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
