Russell Coleman, 72

Russell Coleman, 72 of West Portsmouth, died Friday June 24, 2011 at his home. Russ was born May 23, 1939 in Portsmouth to the late Clay and Gaynelle Priode Coleman.

Russell had many different jobs, but his favorite was being a golf instructor at the Elks County Club his second home, he was a member of the Elks Lodge 154, he had a great talent and shared with many. He was known to help his opponents in golf games, which sometimes they ended up beating him, but Russ enjoyed sharing his talent and helping others in the game of golf, he spent his last few weeks still trying to complete 18 holes, Russell had a lot of love to share with many, in 1989 Russell qualified for the Senior U.S Open, "a great job for a small guy with a big heart". Along with his parents Russ was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Jerry, Bill, Ervin, Boone and Larry Coleman and a nephew Steve Coleman

Russ is survived by his wife and best friend Barbara Kemper Coleman, they have been together since February 4,1989 and became his wife July 27, 2006 in Greenup KY, 3 daughters; Kathy (Jeff) Shupert of West Portsmouth, Lois (Bob) Manchester of South Shore KY, and Robin Coleman of West Portsmouth, 2 step children; Shane (Nikki) Kemper of Wheelersburg, Tammy ( J.J) Phillips of Rosemount, 2 brothers: Robert (Jan) Coleman of Bradenton, Fl, and Douglas (Cathy) Coleman of West Portsmouth, 2 sisters; Delores (Tom) Book of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Maxine (Harry ) Cassidy of West Portsmouth, 4 sisters-in-law Joyce Coleman, Juanita Coleman and Patricia Coleman all of West Portsmouth and Lillian Coleman of Portsmouth, 14 grandchildren; Bryson and Blake Shupert, Bob Manchester, Stacey (Mike) Reed, Kacie and Kelsie Callihan, Nicolas and Aubree Kemper, Brandi and Austin Bricker, Marion, A.J, Hayden and Madison Phillips, 1 great grandson; Caid Cantrell, they will all miss Grandpa Russ and their Paps. Russ is also survived by several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday June 28, 2011 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Tony Knittel officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
