Sadie M. Sowards 80

Sadie M. Sowards, 80 of West Portsmouth went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at SOMC Hospice Center. She was born July 22, 1928 to the late Ernest and Bertha Evans Givens. Sadie attended Rubyville Community Church and was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She was preceded in death by one son; Joseph Sowards Jr., one daughter; Phylis M. Sowards, two sisters; Helen Keefer and Mary Bentley and one son-in-law Gary Ridout.

Sadie is survived by her husband of 59 years Joseph Sowards Sr., whom she married on December 24, 1949, one son; Richard Sowards of Columbus, two daughters; Donna Ridout and Tina (Jeff) Smith of West Portsmouth, one daughter-in-law; Michele Sowards of Columbus, two sisters; Juanita Hicks of Stout and Alma Abbott of Proctorville, three brothers; Elmer (Carolyn) Givens of Friendship, Eugene (Linda) Givens and Eddie (Janet) Givens both of Florida, seven grandchildren; Mark, Sarah, Christie, Alan, Jennifer, Jeffery and Laci, five great grandchildren and a special friend Sharon Ervin.

Funeral services will be 1PM Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rev. Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating and interment in Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8pm on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
