Shirley Dimple Hammond, 81

Shirley Dimple (Cable) Hammond, 81, of West Portsmouth, OH, was born in Pikeville, KY, on May 19, 1945, to the late William and Mamie (Laws) Cable. She passed peacefully at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, OH, on August 22, 2026.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, John Hammond. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers: Raymond Cable, Conley Cable, Alfred Cable, Albert (Bud) Cable, Clayton Cable, and Ed (Harrison) Cable; five sisters: Opal Flemmings, Gladys Baker, Dorothy Cable, Pearl Culver, and Lena Brannan; and one grandson, Kevin Flack.

Shirley is survived by one sister, Anna Brannan of McDermott; two sons, Orvel (Tammy) Flack of Bethlehem, GA, and Calvin (Rebecca) Flack of Hartwell, GA; six daughters, Janey (Bennie) Howard of Minford, Cathy (Dave) Benson of West Portsmouth, Gwendolyn Flack of Portsmouth, Merina (Jimmy) Howard of Lucasville, Sherry (Bill) Hayes of Minford, and Jonda Monraga Fontes of Portsmouth; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery in Piketon.
