Sidney "Lee" Staggs, 22
Sidney "Lee" Staggs, 22, of West Portsmouth died Saturday, October 22, 2005. Lee was born April 24, 1983 in Portsmouth to Sidney and Penny Strickland Staggs of Stoney Run.
He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in McDermott, a 2002 Portsmouth West Graduate who was a member of the Beta Society and Honor Society, received the Shurl Shoemaker Scholarship, the Dr. Singleton Sportsmanship award and the Earl Thomas Conley Scholarship. He attended Graceland University in Iowa where he played baseball, was in the Electrician Program at the Vocational School; and was an avid hunter. Besides being an avid hunter, he was involved in sports in High School being honored with various awards—all District Baseball 2002, SOC Baseball 2nd team 2001, SOC Baseball 1ST team 2002, Rocky Nelson Award for "Most Valuable Player" wooden bat 2001 and SOC Football 1st team 2001.
In addition to his parents, Lee is survived by two brothers, Caleb Zane and Thaddeus Eli Staggs who live at home. He is the grandson of Betty Gillette Strickland and the late Richard Strickland of McDermott; a grandson of Judy Schwamburger Staggs and the late William Staggs of Friendship; a nephew to Dickie, Tim (Brenda), Donnie, and Kenny (Peggy) Strickland, Angie (Mike) Smith, and Tereasa Hornung; first cousin to Ricky, Johnny, Timmy, and Zach Smith; Carrie Sheilling, Jodi Bates, Samantha Neff, Mindy Ferrar, Betty Sparks, Kendra Moore, Billy Hornung, and Lori Willey. He was a relative to a large family, a great friend to many and a special friend to Amanda Wurtz.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2005 at Dry Run Church of Christ with Priest Dee Garwood and Elder Daron Lilly officiating. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 4 to 8 P.M. on Thursday and at the Church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park.
