Steven Carl Hornikel, 63

Steven Carl Hornikel, 63 of Greer, South Carolina, formally of West Portsmouth went to be with the Lord Saturday June 25, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. He was born August 30, 1947 in Portsmouth to the late Carl Henry "Dutch" Hornikel and Hazel Meeker Hornikel. Along with his parents Steve was preceded in death by a grandson Nathan Masters.

Steve was retired from OSCO Industries after 25 years of service and was a member of Carey's Run Church of Christ. Steve lived his life loving the Lord. He served in song and deed. A favorite scripture was Joshua 24:15 "As for me and my house, we serve the Lord"


Steve is survived by his wife Betty Rosenbaum Hornikel who he married on March 22, 1968, a son Todd Hornikel and a daughter Melissa (Rob) Masters all of Greer, S.C., 3 brothers; Robert (Cindee) Hornikel of Shelby, Oh., Dale (Tess) Hornikel of West Portsmouth and Greg (Debbie) Hornikel of Bradenton, Fl., a sister Margaret (Jerry) McGinnis of Lucasville, 2 grandchildren which were the light of his life; Makenna and Ryan Masters many nieces and nephews and his Maltese "Bailey" who will miss him terribly.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday June 29, 2011 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Jimmy Hughes and John Davis officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
