Vernon Lewis Rayburn, 95

Vernon Lewis Rayburn, 95 of Portsmouth, died Thursday April 1, 2010 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born March 14, 1915 in Madison, IN to the late Henry Chester and Etta Lewis Rayburn. He was a WWII Army Veteran and was retired from Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. Along with his parents Vernon was preceded in death by 5 brothers; William, Winfield, Farris, Milton and Everett Rayburn, 1 sister Lucille Wente and a special friend Margurette Anderson.

Vernon is survived by 2 sons; Vernon Lewis Rayburn Jr. of Mars, Pa and Roy James Rayburn of Portsmouth, 1 daughter Betty Jane Wear of Friendship, 10 grandchildren 8 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Saturday April 3, 2010 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Howard Pruitt officiating. Internment will be in Friendship Cemetery with graveside military rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on from 6 to 8:00 Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com
