Willie Hopkins, 83

Willie Hopkins, 83 of West Portsmouth, died Thursday March 27, 2008 at his daughter's residence. He was born June 11, 1924 in West Portsmouth to the late Norman and Rosabelle Hall Hopkins. Willie was a WWII Army Veteran where he served in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star and Medal of Valor, a self employed farmer and retired from Ohio Asphalt Co. He was a member of the Laborers Local 83 and was a trustee of Jericho Baptist Church. Along with his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his wife Mary Briggs Hopkins, a son Derick Hopkins, and 4 brothers Glen Hopkins, Brady Howard Jr., Oscar Hopkins and Raymond Hopkins.

Willie is survived by a daughter Mary (Lynn ) Wellman of Franklin Furnace, 1 sister Betty (George) Grandin of West Portsmouth, 5 grandchildren; Michelle (Matt) Wellman Sheets, Danielle Wellman, Justin Hopkins, Brittany and Taylor Hopkins and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday March 30, 2008 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Lynn Wellman officiating. Interment will be at Scioto Burial Park with graveside military rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 PM on Saturday and 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com
