Bennie D. Lewis, 68

Bennie D. Lewis, 68 of West Portsmouth, died Sunday, January 25, 2026 at SOMC Hospice. He was born July 16, 1957 in Portsmouth to the late Hassle and Helen Sparks Lewis.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. McDowell Lewis, whom he married in 2007, along with 2 brothers; Ronald and Richard Lewis.

Ben was retired from the State of Ohio Department of Corrections. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and worked out of the Operators Union. He also spent many hours running the family farm and had a community garden for people in Valley View. He was a life long hunter, he especially liked hunting Deer and Turkey.

Along with being a member of the Operators Union, he was a member of the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge #769.

Ben is survived by a brother, Michael (Debbie) Lewis, his favorite dog, Cash, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Jim Webb officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM. Camo attire is appropriate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sierra’s Haven in Ben’s name.
