Donald G. Thacker, 86

Donald G. Thacker, 86 of West Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at SOMC Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born November 16, 1939 in Portsmouth, to the late Chester and Myrtle Neeley Thacker.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Wright.

Don retired from Standard Materials Ohio Asphalt Company in 1993. He also worked for Walmart and WIS Inventory and Retail Services, post retirement.

Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Eileen Scott Thacker whom he married on April 15, 1961 at Nauvoo United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth. Don loved his family very much and looked forward to Sunday dinners and holiday visits.

Along with his wife, Don is survived by a daughter, Lori (Ray) Shively of Stout, a granddaughter, Megan Malhotra and a great grandson, Luca Malhotra. He is also survived by siblings; William “Bill” Thacker of Keizer, Oregon, Sharon (Charlie) Clark of Portsmouth, Tim (Wendy) Thacker of West Portsmouth along with many nieces and nephews.

A special Thank You to his caregiver, Tammy Brumfield, who gave Don excellent care. Your time with us was so appreciated. Also the many outpatient Hospice nurses and aids; Mary, Kayla, Joanne, Amanda, Chrissy and the inpatient nurses and aids. We are sincerely grateful for the excellent care Don received over the past several months. You were all amazing! Another special thank you to Washington-Nile Township squad for the many trips to our home and the kindness shown to us. It will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday starting at 11:00 AM. Memorial Contributions may be made to Old Town Methodist Church, SOMC Hospice or Washington Township.
