Janice Kay Spires, 83

Janice Kay Spires, 83, of Stout, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at SOMC Hospice. Born on November 9, 1941, in Stout, she was the daughter of the late Orvil and Bertha Rollins Gifford.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her son, Tim Spires, and her four brothers: Kenneth, Howard, Ralph, and Glenn Gifford.

A devoted homemaker, Janice also dedicated her time to serving others as an EMT Coordinator for Nile Township. She was a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church and was actively involved in the United Methodist Women and the Eastern Star.

Known for her talent in the kitchen, Janice loved sharing her gift for cooking by organizing large meals for her church and social organizations. She was also incredibly creative, crafting countless centerpieces and party favors over the years, bringing joy to many through her handiwork.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Forrest Spires, whom she married in 1958; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Spires; her granddaughter, Lindsay (Kenny) Brown; her great-granddaughter, Sutton Brown; her grandson, Ben (Emily) Spires; her loving niece and caregiver Teresa Maynard; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with Pastor Tom Williams officiating.
