Kortney Leeane Jewell, 34

Kortney Leeane Jewell, 34 of New Boston, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2025. She was born October 13, 1990 in Portsmouth to the late Everett Jewell and Crystal Arthur Murphy.

Kortney was a 2009 graduate of Portsmouth West high School and a 2015 graduate of Shawnee State University. She was an English major and loved history. She used her love for history and started her podcast called “History Shelf” Kortney was full of love and there was never a dull moment when you were around her. She even dressed up and went “Trick or Treating” with her niece, Kiersten. She enjoyed baking, reading, listening to music and spending time with friends and family.

Along with her father Everett, she was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; John and Delores Jewell and Amos and Myrtle Arthur.

Kortney is survived by her mother and step-father Crystal (Mike) Murphy of New Boston, a sister Sarah (Ronnie) Smith of West Portsmouth, a niece Kiersten Smith of West Portsmouth, several aunts, uncles, cousins and her dear friend Nicole Miller who was like her sister. She also leaves behind her dog Hazel, who was her pride and joy, and who helps us get through the heart ache of her absence.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Thayer Wallace officiating, Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 12:00 PM Noon. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the funeral home.
