Robert Joseph Essman, 81

Robert (Bob) Joseph Essman, 81, was welcomed to Heaven on Monday, September 23rd at the SOMC Hospice Center. Bob was born on November 3, 1942 in Portsmouth Ohio to the late Lawrence and Mary Katherine Essman. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Norma Katherine Euton and Pat Shaffer, brother Larry Essman and mother-in-law Naomi Eubanks.

Bob worked at Copeland in West Union, Ohio and retired from Shawnee State University. As a long time farmer there wasn’t a day that passed when he wasn’t in the field farming. Bob attended Friendship United Methodist Church and Oswego Church. Bob was known for is gentle spirit and hard work. He was loved by many and will be missed.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, who was the light of his life, Suzanne (Eubanks) Essman, 5 children; Kyle (Wendy) Essman, Beth Ferrell, John (Melissa) Essman, Laryssa (Terry) Grashel and Tracey (Chris) Norman; grandchildren Joseph (Kelsey Shope) Essman, Kady (Jacob) Lang, Isaac and Bella Ferrell, Blake and Todd Essman, Molly, Sawyer, and Lucy Grashel, Isaiah and Solomon Norman and his great-grandchildren Aliza and Kase Lang and a special niece Amy (Bryan) Wright. Bob is also survived by two brothers, George Essman and Lewis (Debbie) Essman and a sister Mary Caroline Longshore.

The family expresses many thank you’s to caregiver Sheila and SOMC Hospice for their care.

The family will receive friends at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth on Friday September 27, 2024 from 6:00pm-8:00 pm and on Saturday from 10 to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be Saturday September 28, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Danny Powell officiating. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
