Roy H. Arthur Sr., 83 

Roy Harold Arthur Sr., 83 of Friendship, died Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 17, 1942 in Portsmouth, to the late Amos Harold and Myrtle Ernestine Lewis Arthur. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Arthur and 4 sisters, Fannie Flannigan, Anna Harris, Thelma Adams, and Phyllis Hess. 

Roy was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was once known as the shortest man in the military at Fort Knox. 

Roy is survived by 3 children; Roy Arthur Jr., Marvin Arthur, and Carrie Arthur; 3 brothers, Larry (Vicky) Arthur, Gary Arthur and Douglas Arthur; 2 sisters, Rita (Eddie) Ferguson and Crystal (Mike) Murphy; 2 brothers-in-law, David Harris and Robert Hess; and 2 grandchildren, Leslie Arthur and Brett Arthur. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, June 16, 2025 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth.  Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
