Steven R. Swords, 67

Steven R. Swords, 67 of Gallipolis, died Friday December 3, 2021 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. He was born May 2, 1954 in Portsmouth to the late Robert Paul and Catherine Ratliff Swords.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Robert, James, Richard, and Ralph Swords and 3 sisters; Phyllis Kelley, Sheila Collins, Lisa Swords and 2 sets of twins.

Steven was retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. He was the former Veteran Service officer of Gallia County and he taught ROTC at the University of Rio Grande. Steven was a member and former Post Commander of American Legion Post 27 of Gallipolis.

Steven is survived by a son Steve (Jennifer) Swords Jr., 3 daughters; Marla (Cliff) Parsons, Joanna (Clarence) Ferrell and Raina (Sam) Garber, 2 brothers; Earl Swords and Daniel Swords, 6 sisters; Wanda Caudill, Sue Lamblin, Vicki Chaffin, Charrie Arthur, Valarie Dugan and Cindy Nelson, 9 grandchildren; Megan Clark, Travis Sigman, Ashley Kunkler, Grace Kroll, Catherine Ferrell, Ryann Garber, Jacob Garber, Chantelle McLain and Savannah Swords, 1 great grandchild, Clara Kunkler along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday December 10, 2021 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Dan Swords officiating. Interment will be in Worleys Run Cemetery with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
