Virginia “Jenny Lou” Hammond, 66 of Otway died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born October 23, 1954 in Portsmouth to the late Wanda Christine Setters and Eugene Newman. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by George and Erma Adkins who raised her, 3 sisters; Carolyn Young, Marion Newman and her baby sister, June, a special stepson, Shawn Pagett, and 2 grandchildren; Kyle and Brentan Pagett.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Jesse Hammond whom she married June 14, 1998, a son, Kenneth Luther, 3 daughters; Shellie (Jeff) Fisk, Dawn (John Shell) Jackson, and Crystal (Joe Bang) Newman, 2 stepsons; Scotty and Danny Pagett, 2 brothers; Michael Newman and Gary Newman, a sister, Judy Newman, 13 grandchildren; Carrie Mullins, Michael (Ashley) Fisk, Timmy Fisk, Annabelle Fisk, Katelynn (Austin) Tolle, Angel Hughes, Dalton Jackson, Preston Jackson, Dicey (Matthew) Morris, Deseree Boyd, DJ Tackett, Brooklynn Tackett, and Logan Bang, 8 great-grandchildren; Autumn Mullins, Makenzie Ramm, Jayden Fisk, Faith Elder, Raelynn Ellis, Vera Granger, Ava Howard, and Logan Tolle, along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 7:00 PM Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Gary Newman officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 5:00 PM.
