William "Bill" Garver Obituary

William Harold “Bill” Garver, 78

William Harold “Bill” Garver, 78 of Stout went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 17, 2021 at SOMC Hospice.  Bill was the third of four sons born to Carl Clifford and Mildred Effie Denny Garver on July 10, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Garver, who passed on February 2, 2010, they were married for 46 years, and 2 brothers; Carl Clifton “Bus” and Dennis Edward Garver.

Bill was a 1960 graduate of Central High School and attended The Ohio State University.  He had a big heart and loved everyone like his Lord directed, especially his old Columbus neighbors, Lars, and Pete.  In his younger years, he loved nature and the outdoors; he camped, hiked, canoed, fished, and hunted.  He once hiked the Appalachian Trail, Smokies, canoed various rivers and creeks in the State.  He was an avid reader and loved music.

Bill loved the time he spent on the farm, he and Beth lived in Amesville, Ohio.  Their mutual love of animals and raising their girls in the country brought them great joy.

Bill was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in West Portsmouth and was very active until his health didn’t allow him to attend.  His church family was very important to him and he loved every one of them.  Bill was employed by ABB, Accurray in Columbus, Ohio for over 30 years, he was a warehouse supervisor and did inventory control.

Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Pamela Johnson Bumgardner whom he married on May 19, 2011.  Bill’s love for the ocean and mountains was also Pam’s, they vacationed in Myrtle Beach and the Smokies.  His greatest joy was their cat, Gray Boy, music especially the Eagles.  Our Lord brought us together to love each other.  His girls were both Daddy’s girls and he taught them about all that nature has to offer.  Being able to name plants, bugs, trees, snakes, etc. at a very early age.  Teaching them to love all God’s creatures and respect the environment.  Bill was a great father and husband.  He loved to spoil his girls and was always there to support them both.

His daughters were here to love and support Pam, Kimberly S. (Jen) D’Anton of Peoria, Arizona and Tonia M. (Clyde) Tippie of Glouster, Ohio.  He is also survived by his brother, R. Stevan (Judy) Garver of Grove City, Ohio, sisters-in-law; Dorothy Garver of Gahanna and Debbie Smallwood of Columbus, Ohio, his uncle, John “Jack” Garver of London, Ohio along with several nieces and nephews.

Pam and their daughters wish to thank SOMC Hospice for their kindness, love, and help through this sad time.  Alzheimer’s is a difficult thing for people to understand.  Without our Lord, hospice staff, church, and family’s prayers, we would have had a much more difficult time.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Rick Phillips officiating.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday starting at 1:00 PM.  Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
